Lewis was a HUGE part of my childhood and the guy I always wanted to grow up to be (...and still do, although I'm 42 now!) and I am immensely sad to hear the news about his passing. All I can say is that there are millions of people for whom Lewis and the characters he so skilfully created will live forever. William Bodie and Peter Skellen...two of the most iconic creations of the '70's and '80's....what a star. My condolences go out to his family and friends and I can only hope that the love and respect which he attracted throughout his life will be of some comfort to them at this extremely difficult time. Goodnight and God bless Mr Collins.
Matt, Beverley, East Yorkshire

I was shocked and so sad to hear that Lewis passed away. He was the hero of my childhood. I loved "Bodie" since the first time I saw him. Gabi, a fan from Austria.

Thank you Lewis for all.
We played as kids a lot of times "Die Profis" and my idol was you. The good guy Bodie
Thank you for a big part of my an a lot of my friends childhood
Ruhe sanft Lewis

Condolences from Royal Marines Commando fans in Scotland.

I have loved you as a actor from a young age I held your hand in paighton where you was doing a show I told you I was in your fan club and you walked down the road with me also meet you in cheltenham when you opened a kitchen shop you was great love to you family at this sad time x

Lewis and Martin made Saturday nights worth staying in for. I hope his wife and children take comfort in knowing that his fans never forgot him xx

Lewis was my first ever hero from my childhood, and I was so very sad to hear of his passing. Rest in Peace forever Lewis and love and best wishes to your family. S xx

I felt really cut up when I heard the news last Thursday lunchtime. `I can't recall a celebrity death affecting me like that before (not since Diana, anyway). Lewis played my favorite character in what I still regard as the best tv series ever made. Brilliant formula, stellar casting and performances. I also vividly remember watching 'Who Dares Wins' at my local cinema, and then coming out into the night air: it was just a really great feeling. You imagined getting into the SAS! But, unlike virtually all of us, Lewis was capable of this.
We all should have enjoyed him playing James Bond too. No doubt about that. In the '80s The series went off the boil with an ageing Moore and the too dour Dalton. A travesty for the millions (billions?) of Bond fans that he wasn't doing it; a role he was made for.
Clearly a very private man, and not one looking for sympathy: he hid his five year illness remarkably well. My sincere condolences to his family.

St Albans

My thoughts are with his wife & kids at this time. In future I hope they all know how well loved & respected he was.

Like so many of my generation as a teenager growing up in the late 70's and early 80's I aspired to emulate Lewis Collins and the way he performed the character "Bodie". I would always look forward to viewing "the professionals "which is now considered a cheesy and aged programme. At 47 I still watch the old repeats with great fondness. Sadly for Martin Shaw's portrayal of "Doyle"he never quite had that screen presence in my opinion that Lewis had and the permed hair was just not considered a cool look for me .

I only recently learned that he was an excellent rifle shot and was a regular at Altcar rifle range. I joined the regular Army at 17 and also became a member of the shooting team and trained and competed at Altcar many times.

My wife is from Queensferry and moved to Yorkshire at the beginning of this year (2013) and we later married in May(I'm from Yorkshire).Last year we went to Liverpool by train from her house near Shotton railway station. We had to change at Bidston for the Liverpool train and wait a good thirty minutes for our connection. If only I had known then that he was born right there in Bidston. I would have certainly paid a visit to the street he was born in.

Even though I never had the privilege to meet Lewis I feel an amount of loss and sorrow that I can't explain. A very gifted and multi talented man has departed this world and I would like to add my sincere condolences go to his wife and three sons.
RIP Lewis Collins

Some of the sunshine has left our lives. I feel I've lost a close friend of over 35 years. Thank you, Michelle, Oliver, Elliot and Cameron for sharing this wonderful man with us; the thousands of fans around the world.
For some things, there are no words - Only shoulders to leans on, hands to hold on to... And hugs to comfort you a best they can. We cannot take away your grief but may we share it.
God Bless you Lewis, 'The Halls of Valhalla are exceeding wide'
You are all in my thoughts and prayers. In Sympathy and Love

I would not wish to impose upon the grief of those who knew and loved Lewis the most, but I was so struck by the news of his passing that I felt compelled to write a short message. For most of us, we were only lucky enough to get to 'know' Lewis through our television screens and took him to our hearts with great affection. We were, at least, afforded the chance to admire from afar!!
That so many people have felt moved to take a moment to think of Lewis and his family, I only wish for the sadness to eventually make way for a sense of peace and comfort, most of all for those who were able to share in the gift of Lewis's life.
Always in our thoughts, with kindest wishes from Amanda, UK.

God bless Lewis Collins. He, along with Martin Shaw and Gordon Jackson were my childhood heroes taking on the bad guys and although CI5 was only fictional, as a kid of 7 or 8 they made me sleep somewhat more soundly in my bed at night. My sincere condolences go to Lew's family and friends. Lew you will always be a great guy and a great actor and your work will live on through the Professionals and your other films. Give Gordon Jackson a handshake from me up in heaven buddy.

Such sad news, a part of my childhood gone forever. I feel like I am suffering some form of mini bereavement at the moment that will take some time to pass. You will never be forgotten Mr Collins, you were one in a million. Condolences to your family. You will now be up there with Cowley (Gordon Jackson), sharing a bottle of pure malt and a having a laugh. We all know Cowley had a soft spot for Bodie. RIP lovely lad xxx

I never had the pleasure of meeting Lewis. I loved his t.v. work and his films. He once held a door open for my mum and dad, and when they thanked him he gave them a beautiful smile. A gentleman, who will be sadly missed by many people.

Lewis Colin's was my childhood hero growing up in the 1970s, it was Lewis or rather his alter ego Bodie that sparked my interesting the Army; and again Lewis as Capt Peter Skellen in Who Dares Wins in 1980 that solidified it. Lewis (and of course the Falklands War of 1982 ) was the reason I enlisted in 1983..... 24 years later I finally retired as a Warrant Officer class 2. Thank you for steering a directionless 11 year old in 1979 Lewis.... So long big man!

WE'RE SOOOOO SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT LEW. HE WAS A GOOD FRIEND SINCE OUR JURY DUTY DAYS IN THE 90'S. MICHELLE IF YOU NEED ANYTHING CALL ME OR E-MAIL US. YOU WERE HIS BELL. HE LOVED YOU AND THE BOYS SO MUCH. I GOT OUT YOUR GUYS CHRISTMAS CARD FROM LAST YEAR AND CRIED. LOVE YOU LOTS, KAREN AND RANDY BEARNS

i was and still am totally shocked at lewis passing i have been a fan since i was 10, Bodie was my first love,he was so talented and a great guy i still have the membership card from the Lewis collins friendship circle i will treasure it always,my thoughts and condolences go to Michelle and his sons Keep stong Tracy Williams Portsmouth England

I was stunned & completely saddened on hearing the news last thursday that Lewis had died the day before in Los Angeles. I remember in the 1970's as an 8,9,&10 yr old watching the 'Professionals', my dad used to say ''you will look like Lewis Collins when you are older'' [i must have looked like a very young Lewis]. I was always fascinated by Lewis, but not infatuated. I regulalry used to wonder why he never worked much after 'code name wildgeese' & 'Jack The Ripper'. It was remarkable that he did most of his own stunts. To me he seemed like a very private man in real life and i am very sorry that i never met Lewis Collins. R.I.P. Lewis !!!

I AM SO SAD TO HEAR THAT LEWIS HAD PASSED AWAY...I ABSOLUTELY LOVED HIM AS AN ACTOR AND MAY GOD BE WITH THE FAMILY AS HE LOOKS DOWN ON THEM WITH THE ANGELS...SUE WALFORD FROM EYTHORNE DOVER KENT ENGLAND

I was so sad to hear the news of Lewis passing away. He was my heartthrob with his cool looks and shy sense of humour.i have been catching up on the professionals the past few weeks and found it quite strange when the announcement came of his passing however when watching that episode I smiled at all the true professionalism of his acting and I am grateful that he bought so much pleasure to many. My thoughts are with the family at this sad time, keep strong x Susan, Cleethorpes England

Would have been a fantastic James Bond if he had been given the role!!!!!!!!!!!!
GREAT ACTOR
Peter [battersea]

Hi you,
Bodie & Doyle (note the order *smile*) were the heroes of my youth. And now, at an age of 46, they still are. A few years ago, I got myself the whole series on DVD and I still enjoy it. 30 years ago, it´s been tough; nowadays it´s lovely vintage. Wear a Porsche-Orfina watch as they did on TV, have the CI5 theme as ringtone on my smartphone, the CI5 logo on my military-style winter jacket and when I visited England for the first time since 1985, I went to a couple of nearby locations were the series has been filmed (e.g.Oakley Court, Trinity Place (Windsor)). See, am still fascinated. If I went to the poilice for prefession? Well, frankly, I didn´t. Have become a doctor of dental surgery instead, pity ;-))
Mr. Collins impersonated perfectly what a young man wanted to be like. Sadly, he was not seen on TV so much more often. On the other hand, I kept him in memory as he was as "Bodie".
Unknowingly all the best to his family and his friends. Keep a stiff upperlip no hard feelings.
Best regards from Germany,
Martin Ebel

I wish I could say more but I am simply so desperately sad and sorry.
Even having had a bad day, sitting down to The Professionals was an unfaltering source of sheer escapism and a pure joy to watch - the shining star was always without exception the fabulous Bodie. Lewis was very much missed on our TV screens.
I will continue to enjoy and appreciate The Professionals as much as I have ever done, albeit with a tinge of sadness now that Lewis can no longer be with us.
Heartfelt thoughts and warmest wishes, fron Susan Ann. xx.

very sorry to hear the sad news my thoughts go out to the Collins family.
RIP Lewis.

My childhood hero . Greatly missed .

So sad to hear of Lewis' passing. You were a superstar and the world is a darker place now you're gone. Thank you for all the entertainment you have given to me and my friends and family. We'll all miss you.
R.I.P.

I just recently bought the entire "Professionals" DVD box to relieve the London of the late 1970s . It was my favourite show in the early 80s when it ran on German TV. And now he passed on just a few days ago - I am truly shocked!
Please send my sincerest condolences of an old fan from Munich, thanks!

Absolutely devastated to hear the news of Lewis passing away. He was talented, funny and such a cheeky chap who stole many a scene as Bodie. I had the privelage to meet him once to obtain a signed photo and a kiss on the cheek which really made my day. My bedroom wall was covered with posters of Bodie. My thoughts are with his wife and sons at this sad time.
Rest in Peace - Good Night 37

As has been said in so many of these messages, when I read the news of Lewis' passing, I felt a huge part of my childhood went too. That was over 35 years ago, it says something of the impact one actor had on a that I should feel his loss so keenly now. Thank you for memories and my heartfelt condolences to your family at their loss at this difficult time.
BD Hants

Such sad news. Lewis was my hunk and hero during my teens and beyond. Thank you for wonderful memories of Bodie and you were the perfect Bond in many peoples eyes. RIP Lewis Collins.
My thoughts and prayers go to Michelle, his sons and family. Stay strong all. With much love from Krysia, Manchester, UK x

It has taken me nearly a week to write this but words have not been invented yet to express what I am feeling about your passing Lew So here goes. I was six when 'The Professionals' hit the screens in 1977 and as a young boy who liked nothing more than playing WWII in the streets with my friend I was instantly hooked and luckily my mum allowed me to stay up to watch it at 2100 on Saturdays. This went on till I was around 16 when the repeats stopped being shown in the mid eighties and regularly got 'Who Dares Wins' out from the video shop. Little did I know that you lived up the road from me in Golders Green, London for some time otherwise I would have come up to say hello and get some SAS training off of you. Now thirty years on I still never miss 'The Professionals' on ITV4 and make sure I am at home from work in time to see it. On the day you left us I found you star profile in an old copy of Tit Bits magazine from 1984 and I shouted for joy with a big smile. 'The Professionals' will go down in history as one of the most influential and popular TV shows ever made and for that I thank you and your colleagues with all my heart. To say you were a hero I looked up to would be an understatement and I and many others will never forget you; you will be in our hearts forever. Now I must rush as 'the Professionals' are on and it's your tribute episode. My condolences to your family and friends with all my h eart and once again Cheers Lew,
Who Dares Wins
Lee (Flea) Campbell.

i grew up watching lewis on tv during the professionals era.. such a sad loss for all his fans and especially his family and friends... rest in peace buddy, see you on the other side

Great actor, great guy seen every episode of professionals, would have been best bond ever in my opinion.my tv idle rip

Lewis was in my home every Friday for years and is a part of my growing up that will stay with me, great memories. The fact that he was he was able to carry off the part of a hard former SAS agent for all that time and yet in real life be a shy reserved man shows how good an actor he was. You were in the entertainment business and you entertained me and millions of others. God bless, my thoughts and condolences to your family. Regards Gary

Everyone wanted to play Doyle at lunchtime when I was a lad, the ladie's man with the girlie perm.....not me....I was always a 'Bodie' fan through and through!

can't believe that my childhood hero passed away. I will always remember him.
Mirko T., Black Forrest, Germany

I am very sorry to hear that this hero of my childhood passed away. I am from Switzerland and have seen all the films and episodes of Lew. He was extraordinary talented and charismatic. I wish his family all the best and much strength for the future. God bless. I'll always remember him. Kind regards
Mac

What can I say? Lewis, you were a hero of mine when I was a boy in the 80's and both Who Dares Wins and The Professionals made a huge impression on me. You were the embodiment of everything heroic and British and I salute you. You will be missed.
Adam, Worcs.

With Lewis we have lost someone really special. I am glad I had a chance to meet him, his dad and sister a couple of times in the 80s. He was a caring, sensitive and humorous man who will be missed by many peaople. Mythoughts are with his family now.

Lewis, you were robbed! You should have been BOND! You would have made a crackerjack 007, second ONLY to COnnery!

very sad so sorry x

Lewis you are a star and you will always shine forever my heart. Sinceree condolences to his family.

A sad, sad time. Lewis was the best Bond we never had. I met him once on his charity walk with John Conteh. He was friendly, warm and took time to say hello. Rest well. 3.7. out.

So sad another childhood hero passes. I loved him in The Professionals, I used to have the magazines, posters, toys. Like so many other fans I would often wonder why on earth we didn't see more of him on our screens in later years. He had so much presence, Film Star looks, style and terrific wit. I've been watching some of the Cuckoo Waltz's and can't help feeling we where let down by not seeing him cast in more sitcoms later on. And as for Bond! Well he'd easily have been the most authentic that's for sure. Thanks Lewis for such fond memories and a great legacy to a generation of people who, you didn't know, but will remember you fondly always. Condolences to your loved ones.
Chris, Lancashire, UK

I don't feel the need for any regret that Mr Collins did not play James Bond. Life had other plans for him and success comes in many different forms. To have left such a profound and lasting impression on his innumerable fans from every corner of the globe and touched the hearts of all who met him, it would have taken a lot more than just talents and good looks. His unfailingly charming manners and the respect he showed for others would have been a reflection of his inner qualities and values. To have a loving family around him, to remain true to himself despite his fame and the passing of time ..... now, that's a meaningful life.
Lucille, Australia

I am utterly devastated by the untimely death of this wonderful man. A little piece of my youth is gone forever. It wasn't supposed to be like this. I was supposed to meet him one day somehow and tell him how much he meant to so many. My heart goes out to his family and friends. xxx

I'm very sad!!! I can't believe it's true! But I want to remember him as a young good looking boy that was!
Good bye Bodie! Good bye Lewis!
We'll love you for ever!Rossella

A real Hero of my generation. I wanted to be him. When I read Bond I have Lewis in my mind's eye as 007. The Bond films are fun, entertaining and a little farcical - the books are not. Lewis was/ is, Bond of the books. RIP

Its hard to take in, that you have left us Lewis, but we no that you go onto a much better place now. May the heaven lights shine on you as you so richly deserve. I grew up admiring your acting especially in the Professionals. Your film Who Dare Wins was and still is to this day, one of my all time favourites. Thank you Lewis for your dedication. Love to Michelle and your 3 boys at this hard and difficult time. R.I.P. XXX

Heartbroken to learn of the lovely Lewis Collins passing. Devastating good looks, charisma, humour and talent, he had it all. Utter travesty that he was not offered the part of James Bond, a role he had all the credentials for. My very deepest sympathy to the family he loved so much. Rest in peace our dear Lewis, forever in our hearts.

Absolutely Devastated,

My Hero. Thank you Lewis you made me strong when i was young.
Bless you

I had the honour of meeting Lew several times and he was a charming, lovely man. I hope that his family in L.A. Can take some comfort in knowing how loved he was in the U.K. Can't believe that this wonderful man who was so much a part of my younger years has gone. Thoughts with his friends and family. X Tracy.

Shocked & saddened by the death of Lewis Collins, as Cowley would have said: "You were a hard man Bodie!" But I remember a line in The Bill when he playd Dr Peter Allen & said "Ladies man, me?" & laughed. The James Bond we never had. RIP Lewis & condolences 2 his friends & family. Thank you. Mark Anderson frm Carlisle AKA Screech

To Michelle & your three sons - I send my condolences, thoughts & prayers to you at such a sad time. Lewis defined my teenage years as Bodie, but you knew him so much better and he will be a huge loss to his many fans the world over and an immeasurable loss to you. I just hope that the love shown will be of some comfort to you. Laugh through the tears as you recall the wonderful memories you have. Fly to the angels, 3-7. Grant, Langley, UK.

I was greatly saddened to hear of the passing of Lewis Collins. I was born in 1970, so I was 7-11 years of age when I watched Lewis in the role of Bodie in, 'The Professionals.' Like many people, Lewis to me was a childhood hero and inspirational role model. He forms part of my very happy childhood memories. I have spoken to many people over the last few days, it is evident that Lewis was hugely popular with those of us who grew up during the late 1970's. There are many people lamenting his passing. It has rred to me that indirectly, Lewis has influenced my own life. Like Lewis, I developed a keen interest in marksmanship as a teenager. I served in the TA infantry for 18 years. I have served as a Police officer for more than 16 years. Finally, I have owned an immaculate Capri as a classic car for 19 years. I strongly suspect that my childhood hero DID influence my own path through life. Lewis was a man of many talents, sadly, we did not see enough of him as an actor. Without doubt, he would have made a superb James Bond. Lewis will ALWAYS be fondly remembered by many people who associate him with happy childhood memories. Deepest condolences to Lewis's family at this sad time. RESPECT- RIP Lew.

Can't think of the right words.. Somehow, nothing seems good enough.
A kid when I first saw you; a young teen.
No-one ever there to turn too... no-one ever there to help.
But for one hour a week, the kid in me had a hero. Didn't matter that he was on-screen - he was there. Got the bad guys. I took strength from where I could get it - and I found it with you,Lewis. You and Martin, as 3-7 & 4-5.
Never got to say, thank you.
But I want to say it now.
Thank you, Sunshine. Thank you so much.
My most sincerest of condolences to your family and friends.
With love, and admiration, from myself and the child I was.
Always,
Dawn (Dee ~ Layla) xxx

Lewis, you were, are and always will be my hero. really loved the professionals, and like so many others around the world i feel like i have lost a part of myself. lost my dad last year to cancer, too. damn illness. deepest regrets to lewis´ family, especially to his sons....feeling with you! spent the last days with watching some episodes of the professionals. man, what a series!!! and what a legacy that lewis left to us. he would have been the best bond ever, and he would have earned it....here´s to you, lewis - and have a fine malt with gordon! harald, austria

I grew up watching the professionals and never missed an episode,i continue to watch them whenever they are repeated. The Ford Capri,s and the handbrake turns were great to watch and they always beat the bad guys, unfortunately Lewis could,nt beat the bad guy this time but he certainly made a fight of it in true Bodie style.God Bless You Lewis.RIP

Gone way to soon. Rest in peace. My heart goes out to his family. A big fan from Germany.

Really sad to hear of the passing of Lewis. You were one of the first "Heroes" of mine and how I wanted to be Peter Skellen. And you would have nailed James Bond too. RIP

rip in peace lewis, deepest sympathy to your family.

Rest in peace Mr Collins. You will be missed.

A great British TV icon roars towards the pearly gates in his Ford Capri. Truly sad news - would have been a terrific Bond, a Daniel Craig before they invented him. Also loved his work in Jack The Ripper - a great double act with Michael Caine.
RIP Lewis.

I was at boarding school in the early eighties and on Sunday night the whole house without fail watched The Professionals - it was hands down the best show on television and he was the star of it.So sad when I heard the news, it was almost like someone in my family had died. RIP Lewis

He set the template for 70s cool. A lifetime fan of the Profs and Lewis's acting career. Broccoli really did miss out on one of the best Bond's ever. God bless.
Johnny. Bury, Lancs.

What bad News about Lewis. As I heard from his death, I felt so bad. In the early 80's the series "The Professionals" came on the TV in Germany. From the first episode on I was a great fan of Lewis, most of my girlfriends loved Martin Shaw as Doyle. But my hero was Lewis. As the Action film "Who dares wins" came in the german cinemas, I was so glad, that Lewis came to Frankfurt/Germany for an hour. My mother and I drove to Frankfurt and we both received a handsigned photo of him. He was a great man, a nice looking man and my personal hero. Over the years, I collected all of him, which I could found in newspapers or on TV or in the Cinema. Up to today, he is my great hero, my first love and until I die, he is in my heart any day of my life. My condolence to his family. I know, that it is much pain in each Person, who loves him or who admired him. I am so proud, that I could meet him one time in my life. Lewis, I will never forget you. You are a piece of my heart.
RIP Lewis.
By my hero.
In neverending love

An amazing man. CI5 will live on forever. The best actor never to play 007. Condolences to his family.

What a sad day this is hearing the news about Lewis Collins. It is so awful and such a shock. Bodie was my heartthrob and my hero. I still watch the series re-runs on TV all these years on even though I have the boxed set of DVDs and I also loved him in Who Dares Wins. All his fans, myself included, know that he wasnt just a hero on our TV screens but in real life as well with his daredevil stunts and jumping out of planes. My heart goes out to Michelle, Oliver, Cameron and Elliot at this awful time. You fought a brave battle Lewis. Rest In Peace.
